About the Role:

MPA Recruitment is seeking a Switchboard Operator on behalf of a public sector healthcare client. You will be part of a 24/7 team handling internal and external calls, responding to emergencies, monitoring alarms, and providing essential communication support across healthcare sites.

 

Key Responsibilities:

As a Switchboard Operator, your duties will include:

  1. Manage incoming calls professionally and efficiently.
  2. Act as the first point of contact for staff, patients, and the public.
  3. Respond to emergency situations, including major incidents, fire alarms, cardiac arrests, and security alerts.
  4. Maintain accurate records, logs, and communication directories.
  5. Monitor and report faults relating to alarms, pagers, and telephone systems.
  6. Provide information and support while remaining calm in high-pressure situations.
  7. Work independently and as part of a team during out-of-hours shifts.

What We’re Looking For:

Essential Criteria:

  1. 4 GCSEs (A–C), including English and Maths, or equivalent; or
  2. 1–2 years' experience in a switchboard, call centre, or administrative role.

Skills Required:

  1. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  2. Strong IT and keyboard skills, including Microsoft Office.
  3. Ability to prioritise workload and manage emergencies.
  4. Professional, calm, and reliable under pressure.
  5. Flexible to workdays, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
