Sr. Engineering Manager
Digital Health
MPA has been appointed by one of the fastest growing and leading Digital Health organisations in Canada to source an Engineering Manager to join their growing team in Toronto. This role also has remote options.
You will be joining an organisation that has grown significantly in recent years to become a leader within the Digital Health sector by bringing much-needed innovation to the stagnant health care industry. Their mission is to help people live healthier, happier lives every day.
As Senior Engineering Manager, you are responsible for a development team focused on core backend services, that all Backend Engineers use. You have a strong technical background which allows you to engage in architecture recommendations and occasional code reviews. You collaborate with leaders across the company to align on your team’s priorities, objectives, processes and deliverables. You foster an environment of technical excellence, collaboration and career growth.
In this role, you will:
Delivery Management
Monitor day-to-day code delivery and quality, holding the team accountable for upholding our core engineering values
Work with Engineering leaders and stakeholders to identify dependencies and support the successful delivery of our product roadmap
People Management
Advocate for and manage the growth and development of your team, e.g. regular 1:1s with team members, providing feedback and coaching, setting deliverables, tracking career growth
Support and build an inclusive culture of quality, feedback, and iteration within your team
Identify headcount needs for the team, and drive planning and recruiting to fill these needs
Anticipate and address issues within the team around communication, underperformance, interpersonal dynamics, and unclear ownership
Technical Management
Take a higher level view of architecture and tools, working with team members to identify and drive strategic investment opportunities in our tools and platform
Manage relationships with external vendors
Our backend stack: Go, MongoDB, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry, Github, CircleCI, Concourse, Contentful
About You:
You have 5+ years of experience building backend applications
You have 4+ years of experience leading development teams
You are proficient with agile development methodologies
You are comfortable planning and executing projects from idea to completion
You understand how to plan, build, test, and maintain complex software applications
You excel at getting a team to focus on the highest-impact projects
You are an effective communicator, both verbally and in writing
You have a growth mindset and a track record of building highly effective teams
Their platform and applications run on Google Cloud. They build their backend services with Go and MongoDB, their web apps with React and Redux, and native Android and iOS apps.
