Job Title: Higher Clerical Officer (Band 2) 
Hours: 20 hours per week (3pm-8pm Monday to Friday with one weekend in six when trained and time off in lieu the following week),

We are looking for an organised and reliable Clerical Officer to provide efficient administrative support within our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, processing documents, handling correspondence, and delivering excellent customer service to colleagues and the public. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a varied workload are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that laboratory requests are entered into the laboratory computer system, WinPath. 
  • The post holder will check the accuracy of the information entered against the original request form and previous records entered in the computer system.
  • Operate appropriate computerised clinical information systems as required within the department e.g. EPIC and Microsoft Office products
  • Operate the request scanning and automated data capture system.  Retrieve records of requests from this image archive system, in response to queries.
  • Telephone communications with GPs, Health Centre staff, ward staff and others on a variety of laboratory related matters in accordance with laid down protocols. 
  • Adhere to the Department’s Quality Policy and procedures as set out in Q-pulse
  • Deal with incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Provide clerical support for the department including word processing and photocopying, if required.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by Line Manager.

Essential Requirements

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) with clerical/administrative experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible to work across Trust sites and participate in evening/weekend rotas.

Desirable

  • Experience using hospital systems such as RIS, PACS, or PAS.
