Hours of work: 37.5 Hours Per Week (Monday- Friday) Flexible working between 8am - 6pm

On behalf of our public sector Client based in the Greater Belfast area, MPA recruitment welcome suitable applications for the role of a Youth Participation Officer

The main duties and responsibilities of the role:

The Participation Officer will work as part of a team within the Education Service and will be managed by the Youth Managers.

The Participation Officer will be required to undertake a variety of tasks.

  • Assisting in the planning and delivery of the plenary sittings of the Youth Assembly
  • Assisting in the development and drafting of policies, processes and procedures in relation to the Youth Assembly
  • Engaging with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, including young people
  • Commitment to the participation of children and young people in the democratic process
  • The ability to work with young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of participatory processes and techniques to facilitate the involvement of young people in decision-making
  • Experience of designing and delivering relevant training and development opportunities for young people
  • The ability to work in a team
  • A willingness to undertake out-of-hours, including weekends, work and travel as required.
  • You may also be required to carry out other duties that the role reasonably requires of you.

Essential Criteria:

Candidates must have:

  • GCSE passes at Grades A, B or C in five separate subjects, which must include English Language and Mathematics (or qualifications that can be shown to be of an equivalent or higher level); and
  • One year’s experience in the provision of participative youth led-projects.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of successfully designing and delivering training and development opportunities for young people.
  • A good knowledge of the structures and role of the Northern Ireland Assembly and public, community and voluntary sectors.
  • A good knowledge of the youth sector in Northern Ireland.
