Speciality Doctor, Old Age Psychiatry

MPA Recruitment has been appointed by the NHS in Northern Ireland to source a Speciality Doctor, Old Age Psychiatry to join their team in the Western Health and Social Care Trust.

As the Speciality Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry, you will provision with Consultant Supervisors of Old Age Psychiatry Service with responsibility for the assessment and treatment of illness and the proper functioning of the service; provision of out-patient services which will includes home visits to patients unable to attend out-patient locations and visits to review patients in community based facilities - the majority of outpatients (90%) will be reviews / follow ups; work in conjunction with the Consultant Psychiatrist and Liaison Nurse in the psychiatric liaison service for older people in the Altnagelvin and Waterside hospitals; be responsible for completing the appropriate administrative duties in a timely fashion; collaborate with Consultant colleagues in medical management and share in the proper functioning of the Western Trust’s Old Age Psychiatry Service and Mental Health service overall, including deputizing for Consultants at multidisciplinary meetings and outpatients clinics as necessary.
You will also be expected to participate in the future development of a comprehensive Old Age Psychiatry service for this catchment area in line with NI Dementia Strategy; participate in training provided by the Trust and be familiar with policies and procedures; participate in medical audits, in conjunction with colleagues set, monitor and evaluate quality standards for the Old Age Psychiatry Service; participate in the induction and clinical support to doctors in training grades and students within the department.

The qualify for this post, you will need:

  • Full registration with GMC, London or eligible for full GMC Registration.
  • 4 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part time basis) with at least 1 years’ experience working in Old Age Psychiatry.
  • Current full driving license and access to a car.
