Job Role: Band 7 Senior Epidemiologist Specialist

We are recruiting a Band 7 Senior Epidemiologist Specialist for our public service client.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of specialised epidemiology knowledge which will underpin one or more Health Protection surveillance programmes of work which includes:

  • Healthcare associated infections, antimicrobial resistance, and antimicrobial utilisation
  • Surgical Site Infections
  • Respiratory and gastro-intestinal infections
  • Sexually transmitted infections, blood borne viruses, vaccine preventable diseases and vaccine uptake.

Location: - Belfast

Hours of Work: -37.5 hours per week. Mon - Fri (9:00am -5:00 pm)

Salary: £19.89 PH

What the role entails:

She/he will play a key role in the delivery of the client and will work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising of Consultant in Health Protection / Surveillance and Infection Control and Health Protection Nurses. The post holder will work collaboratively with a range of external key stakeholders including the clients Local Commissioning Groups, and community health & social care providers.

The post holder will progress the Health Protection surveillance work programme - including oversight and delivery of surveillance systems, incident investigation and management, audit and implementation of best practice, and provision of education and training. S/he will be expected to contribute to other activities within the Health Protection Service at senior level, such as work on quality assurance and research and development. This post includes the production of timely reports and surveillance outputs using routine sources of data, as well as developing appropriate new analyses of existing and novel data sources.

These activities will require sound analytical skills combined with a capacity for strategic and tactical thinking, and sensitivity to managerial and economic complexity of delivering public health services/improvements in the current environment. The post holder will have good interpersonal skills, the ability to lead and work in a team, and a willingness to travel when/if required.
