MPA Belfast are recruiting for a Payroll Clerk, for our public sector client NIFRS, based in Lisburn.

Essential Criteria

Communicative English, both verbal and written

At least one year’s previous payroll experience, operating a computerised payroll system, knowledge of manual tax calculations, National Insurance, SSP, SMP etc.

Demonstrate speed/accuracy of keyboard skills.

5 GCSEs at Grade A-c, to include Maths and English (or equivalent)


Main Duties

Liaise with individual Finance Offices on prioritisation and processing of files.

Print payments in a timely and effective manner to meet the strict deadlines of payment due dates.

This includes weekly wages, monthly salaries/pensions, 4 weekly payments to Caretakers, Retained and creditors’ cheques and BACs.

Responsible for the issue, control and safe-keeping of cheques and Confidential Pay-slips, ensuring that adequate stocks of these are available at all times.

Responsible for examining Registers of Attendance to reconcile with sickness certificates received and ensure the payment processed agreed with the information received for weekly and monthly payments.

Responsible for Department of Social Security, Statutory Sick Pay Regulations:

Recording sickness days for Statutory Sick Pay entitlement.Responsible for SSP1 Booklets to employees to transfer to Incapacity Benefit.

Forwarding Medical Certificates to the Department of Social Security for payment of Incapacity Benefit for employees.

Keeping records and Certificates for inspection for the Department of Social Security.

Notifying Service Establishment Officer of long-term sickness for manning of Stations for fire cover.

Responsible for Health and Safety aspects as set out in the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service's Health and Safety Policy.

To observe any guidance issued under the Data Protection Act 1998.

Additional Information

Hours of work: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm

Rates of pay: £9.56 p/hour

Holiday pay accrued from first day of employment
