Our client operates on the front line of health care providing a range of services for Health and Social Care across Northern Ireland. This support ranges from day-to-day maintenance to the design and implementation of major systems.

Information technology plays a central role in the safe and effective delivery of health and social care in Northern Ireland.
The main duties and responsibilities of the role:
Your responsibility as a database administrator (DBA) will be the performance, integrity and security of the many databases hosted by BSO ITS. You'll be involved in the onboarding of new databases, advising on hosting design and maintenance, as well as in troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users.
KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Delivery
a. Responsible for the analysis and resolution of technical issues relating to the design, management, maintenance and day-to-day use and operation of the BSO’s complex database infrastructure including for example environment design, backup and restore, patching, monitoring, and capacity management.
b. Analyse user requirements and facilitate the design, implementation, development, documentation, and support of complex ICT solutions.
c. Take a lead in and undertake appropriate tasks within ICT programmes of work, reporting on progress as required.
d. Facilitate the procurement, negotiation, establishment, monitoring and review of support contracts and service level agreements for ICT solutions and services.
e. Supplier management - work with and monitor vendors/suppliers in relation to performance, change requests etc.
f. Take responsibility for communicating technical issues/incidents to service users and key stakeholders.
g. Input to change release and change management activities associated with solution upgrades or change with all stakeholders, including ITS Change Advisory Board (CAB);
h. Contribute to the development and maintenance of Service Transitioning Assurance Process (STAP) documentation.
i. Act as the primary point of contact in the absence of the Service Manager for services under Post holder control in the event of a Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery event.This includes assisting the Service Manager with ensuring that all proactive system related disaster recovery processes are document, tested and kept up to date.
j. Assist the Service Manager in actively managing and controlling operational risk of services under Post holder control.
k. Contribute to the analysis of user requirements and the design, implementation, development, testing, documentation, and support of complex ICT solutions.
l. Participate in and undertaking appropriate tasks within ICT Programmes of work, reporting on progress as required.
m. Record, analyse and resolve complex incidents and problems related to ICT solutions.
n. Undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the Service Manager
Essential Criteria:
Candidates must have:
1. A university degree in a computer science
related discipline or equivalent recognised ICT professional qualification AND 2 years relevant experience*
An HND in a computer science related discipline or equivalent recognised ICT qualification AND 3 years relevant experience*
OR
5 years relevant experience*
*Relevant experience is defined as having experience and operational knowledge of large relational databases from an administrative perspective, e.g. infrastructure design, high availability options, database instances, patching and backup and restore routines.
The following clarification is provided:
Have experience/knowledge of working with infrastructure technologies, to include:
· Windows and/or Linux/Unix operating systems, Relational Database systems, Virtualisation in one or more of the following technologies: VMWare, Hyper V, PowerVM
· Backup and restore of databases
· High Availability options in databases in two or more of the following: Failover Clusters, Always On, Mirroring in SQL Server, RAC, DataGuard in Oracle
· Scripting in two or more of: SQL, T/SQL, PL/SQL, Powershell
· MS Office 2016/2019
