INTERIM PRODUCTION MANAGER

6 - 12 MONTHS PROJECT (POTENTIAL TO TRANSITION TO PERMANENT)

SOUTH DERBYSHIRE

SALARY NEGOTIABLE

Our client is a market leading manufacturer of Construction products based in the South Derbyshire area of England. Due to significantly increased production volumes, they are looking to appoint an Interim Production Manager for a period of 6-12 months.

The main purpose of the role is to drive manufacturing excellence and maintain the high levels of Quality, Service and Safety standards. You will have responsibility for ensuring the productivity targets are reached and develop the production team to meet agreed business objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Run an efficient and effective production unit, manufacturing high quality products in a safe manner to deliver the required levels of operational performance.
  • Manage/coach/mentor a team of 4 direct reports, to ensure that a consistent and professional working approach is maintained.
  • Deputise for the Operations Manager when required, ensuring that a senior manager is present within Operations at all times.
  • Achieve monthly production targets of output, waste, cost control and labour utilisation.
  • To identify and implement methods of improving productivity, quality, safety and costs. Leading projects, both with direct reports and wider business stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all Health & Safety procedures are adhered to by all employees and that work is conducted in a safe manner. Whilst constantly looking to update ‘the standard’ to strive for a preventative culture, rather than reactionary.
  • Ensure the production unit always complies with any current regulations and to be totally familiar with all new legislation regarding HSE. Putting clear check points and controls in place to reduce the risk of repeating issues.
  • Ensure quality is at expected levels and implement adequate systems and controls to verify production is meeting expected standards
  • Follow up with continuous improvement activity to eliminate fault & prevent re-occurrence.
  • To promote best practice in order to meet the manufacturing objective.
  • Agree and document critical standard operating procedures and working practices. Ensure these are adopted across all shifts.
  • Ensure that regular and clear communications on production output and specific product questions are answered quickly and accurately, to support Customer Services with any customer questions/queries.
  • Ensure process procedures are in place and current for all operational processes in conformance with required standards and certification.
  • Maintain efficiency, quality, maintenance and safety measurement systems to continuously and visibly verify performance on a daily basis.
  • Manage team performance and motivate, set challenging goals and objectives for the team, mentor and develop direct & indirect reports. Ensure that the team works in line with company objectives.
  • Manage appraisals, PDP's, training etc. in line with Company policy and procedure.
  • Report on KPI’s agreed such as scrap, output, OTIF, consumable spend, wages, quality, stock value, WIP
  • Contribute towards the effective planning of parts/materials/people, working closely with the Planning team.
  • Report back regularly through line management and ensure weekly production meetings are held with all departments. With patterns/regular issues being identified and strong actions plans being executed in a timely manner.
  • Help to create and maintain a culture of trust, openness, ownership and accountability throughout all members of the team.
  • To carry out other tasks as deemed necessary, that are within the job holder's capability.

CRITERIA

  • Due to the Interim nature of this role, it is essential that you are able to start immediately and hit the ground running with minimal transition delay.
  • Previous Production Management experience is essential, ideally in a building product environment.
  • Ability to work on own autonomy with minimal supervision required.
  • Be solutions focussed with the ability to resolve or ideally prevent conflict.
  • Outstanding communication skills, effective listener with confident articulation.
  • Self starter, driven and focussed at all times.

Due to the Interim nature of this role, our client is happy to pay a competitive pro rata salary.
