Database Administrator
On behalf of our public sector Client based in the Greater Belfast area, MPA recruitment welcome suitable applications for the role of a Database Administrator.
The Database Administrator’s primary job is to ensure that data is available, protected from loss and corruption, and accessible for business-critical procedural and corporate IT systems that support Assembly business.

Start Date: 26 July 2021
End Date: May 2022
Location: Greater Belfast
Salary: £30,280 per annum
Hours of work: 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday, (Flexible working hours between 8am - 6pm)
The main duties and responsibilities of the role:
- Analyse data to assess and plan storage capacity requirements, including the storage for backups.
- Assess hardware requirements and provide specifications to the Infrastructure Team
- Design SQL Server environments on-premise and in the Azure Cloud, considering availability, accessibility, security, backup, and data recovery.
- Configure, implement, and monitor SQL Server Transactional Replication between on-premises and Azure cloud instances
- Monitor performance and tune SQL Servers instances to improve server performance
- Monitor and optimise databases to improve efficiency, including indexing and query handling
- Monitor the integrity of the databases using database checks, scheduled jobs, alerts and reporting
- Provide technical advice and assistance to the Software Development team on database designs, change management and archiving
- Design and implement backup and data recovery strategies appropriate to the requirements of the system and the IT Disaster Recovery plan
Criteria:
Essential:
- Applicants for the post must by the closing date for application:
- A primary degree, 2:2 classification, in Computing, Computing Science, Software Engineering or other discipline relevant to Information Systems / Information Technology*.
AND
- At least 2 years’ experience of:
- Administering an enterprise-level SQL Server environment ** (SQL Server 2012 or later)
- Database Design based on Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or later.
AND
- At least 1 years’ experience of:
- SQL Server Transactional Replication
- SQL Server Always on High Availability Groups
OR
- A HND or Foundation Degree in Computing or other discipline relevant to Information Systems / Information Technology*.
AND
- At least 3 years’ experience of:
- Administering an enterprise-level SQL Server environment ** (SQL Server 2012 or later)
- Database Design based on Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or later.
AND
- At least 1 years’ experience of:
- SQL Server Transactional Replication
- SQL Server Always on High Availability Groups
