Job description

MPA are recruiting on behalf of our client Apex housing for a Temporary Ongoing Cook 37 hours per week. This role will be based at Daleview House Nursing home , in the Derry/Londonderry area. Shift times are 8.30am-5.30pm .

Duties will include:

·         To manage and oversee the operation of the kitchen within the scheme

·         To manage all food safety and HACCP food monitoring records within the kitchen.

·         To undertake and monitor the ordering and stock control of catering and cleaning supplies for the kitchen

·         To plan menus and to provide meals which reflect the nutritional and dietary needs of up to 40 residents.

·         To maintain the kitchen and dining areas to a high standard of hygiene that adheres to Health and Safety Regulations and Environmental Health Regulations.

·         Ensure you follow workplace Health & Safety procedures and act to minimise the risk of harm in the kitchen and to the staff.

·         Ensure that all kitchen equipment is kept in safe working order and any faults are reported to Property Services.

·         To adhere to other internal policies, procedures and guidelines as directly by the Association.

·         To keep up to date on statutory requirements particular to catering and Environmental Health.

·         To show and promote a commitment to the statutory duties under Section 75 of the N. Ireland Act 1998.

·         To effectively utilise IT when necessary to fulfil the administrative duties required of the job role such as menu planning, ordering stock and record keeping.

 

Qualifications required:

 

·         NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Catering or City & Guilds 706/707 parts 1 & 2 or equivalent AND 6 months experience working as a professional cook catering for 40 or more.

 

OR

 

·         One years’ experience or more, working as a professional cook catering for up to 40 if you do not hold the above qualification

 AND

·         Awareness of Environmental Health and Safety standards in a commercial kitchen environment.

 

·         Awareness of specialised nutrition and dietary needs (e.g. fortified diets, IDDSI Framework)

 

·         Ability to plan, prepare and oversee meals prepared for up to 40 residents with specialised dietary needs.

 

·         Ability to demonstrate organisational skills.

 

·         Ability to communicate effectively with residents, colleagues and regulators.

 

·         Ability to supervise staff and motivate a team

 

·         Flexible re hours required to work.
